WORKSHOP DESCRIPTION:
Legacy in Action: Gifting Your Company for Impact
Are you preparing for a transition, whether a sale event or succession to the next generation? Would you like to reduce taxes? Would you like to increase your family’s giving? Increase your employee’s engagement?
National Christian Foundation has walked with thousands of families and business owners, helping them make the most of defining moments in their family and business. Come interact with two business owners who see stewardship as the driving factor behind operating their family business.
Alan Barnhart has led Barnhart Crane and Rigging (BCR) since 1986. In 2007 they gifted 100% of BCR to NCF. In the intervening time, BCR has grown to over 40 locations across the US and Canada. Alan continues to lead the business and remains the CEO. He and his wife, Katherine, work with 80 employees and spouses to deploy 50% of their annual profit to advance the ministries they care most about.
Jeff Rutt founded Keystone Custom homes in 1992. The Rutt family has since gifted 90% of KCH to NCF while growing to 9,000 homes. Jeff and his children continue to lead the business. Together they deploy profits to advance the ministries they care most about, like Hope International.
Jon D. Eisenberg, President of National Christian Foundation’s regional office will explain how these kinds of sophisticated gifts work. Then you will be able to talk to Alan, Jeff and Alissa about their journey. We hope this helps you discern whether this makes sense for your situation.

Alan Barnhart
Barnhart Crane and Rigging
Alan Barnhart came to Christ in high school at a Young Life camp in Colorado.
He has an amazing wife, Katherine, and six children (37, 34, 32, 30, 27, and 24), three daughters-in-law, two sons-in-law, and eight grandkids.
Alan has a boring resume—he has worked for the same company since he was 10 years old and has had the same position since 1986. Barnhart Crane and Rigging Company is a Heavy Lifting and Heavy Transport company based in Memphis, TN, with offices in 40 cities across the US. By God’s grace, the company has grown an average of 18% per year for 39 years. Barnhart provides services to heavy industry and construction, focusing on power plants (wind, nuclear, and fossil fuel) and the petrochemical industry.
Alan’s fear of affluence caused him to cap his lifestyle. His passion for missions has taken him to over 60 countries. The company profits are invested in strategic missions through the GROVE Group. Kingdom Companies Group team members and spouses (about 60) work in six teams to develop Kingdom investment portfolios that inform the decision-making process of the GROVE Board. Over 50 team members have traveled internationally in that effort.
Alan seeks to affect other companies through involvement in the Kingdom Companies Group and C12. He is a trustee for one of the KCG trusts and serves on the KCG Council. He is active in a local C12 group and serves on their Board of Directors. Alan attends First Evangelical Church and is an active backpacker.

Jeff Rutt
Keystone Custom Home
Jeff Rutt is founder, president, and CEO of Keystone Custom Homes: the first three-time recipient of the “America’s Best Home Builder” award. Keystone has built over 9,000 homes in Pennsylvania, Maryland, and North Carolina. Driven by faith and a desire for lasting impact, Jeff and his family have donated 89% of the stock in Keystone and its subsidiaries to the National Christian Foundation Charitable Trust.
Jeff is also the founder and chairman of the board of HOPE International, a nonprofit that helps individuals in 24 countries break the cycle of poverty and invest in their dreams by providing small loans, savings services, and biblically based business training. Jeff and his family enjoy traveling to the front line to serve and encourage as they bear witness to communities rebuilt and dignity restored. Since its founding in 1997, HOPE has served over 2.8 million families and loaned over $1.6 billion dollars, with a 97% repayment rate. As they grow more established, HOPE’s microfinance institutions become self-sustaining engines of generosity in their communities, supporting local Christ-centered children’s ministries with a portion of their profits. For his service to HOPE and humanity, Jeff was honored with the National Epoch Lifetime Achievement award. He has also received the building industry’s Hearthstone Award, a lifetime service achievement award also conferred upon fellow Gathering participant David Weekley.
Jeff and his wife, Sue, have been married for 43 years and delight in traveling, tennis, and finding ways to serve with their three married children and seven grandchildren.
