Nonprofit Resources - The High Center
Stronger Organizations. Greater Impact.

Nonprofit Center

Your Mission Matters. So Does Your Leadership.

Leading a nonprofit requires you to think about the mission—and everything it takes to sustain it.

People. Funding. Boards. Strategy. Culture. Growth. Community expectations. And the constant challenge of doing more with limited resources.

When nonprofit leaders are stronger, their organizations are stronger—and their community’s benefit. Sustaining that impact requires strong organizations—and strong organizations require leaders who have the opportunity to keep learning and growing.

The High Center for Nonprofits gives leaders a place to step outside the day-to-day, gain perspective, learn from exceptional thinkers, and connect with peers who understand the realities of nonprofit leadership.

Rising need and tighter resources are putting more weight on the quality of your decisions.

A board that's a true partner

Your board can be your greatest asset or your heaviest lift. Clear roles, the right members, and honest dialogue make the difference. How we help: Peers who have rebuilt board relationships, plus speakers on governance

A sustainable funding model

Covering this year's budget isn't the same as building a model that holds. Durable revenue takes strategy, discipline, and a clear view of your numbers. How we help: Benchmarking and assessments, plus business leaders' financial perspective

A team that stays and grows

Mission attracts good people. Strong leadership, real development, and a healthy culture are what keep them. How we help: Talent and culture practices from across our whole membership

The discipline to act

Good ideas don't change anything until someone acts on them. Accountability is what turns a plan into results for the people you serve. How we help: A peer group that asks what you did with it

The High Center Model

Three services. One clear path from insight to action.

Great leadership doesn’t come from one workshop or one good idea. It develops over time, which is why membership brings three connected experiences together.

Executive Peer Groups

The High Center’s nonprofit peer groups bring leaders together in confidential, facilitated groups where they can talk openly about the challenges they are facing, learn from one another’s experiences, and work through decisions with people who understand the realities of leading a nonprofit organization.

World-Class Education

Nonprofit members have access to The High Center’s speaker series, bringing nationally recognized business and leadership experts to Central Pennsylvania. You’ll explore ideas and proven practices around leadership, culture, strategy, innovation, organizational performance, succession, and other issues shaping today’s organizations.

Business Insights

The High Center offers nonprofit business tools designed to help organizations illuminate the practices, systems, and decisions that support long-term effectiveness. These resources will give nonprofit leaders practical ways to assess their organizations, strengthen operations, and apply proven approaches to the challenges they face every day.

Hear from our members

“In the company of other nonprofit leaders through the High Center, I have found a rare connection, one rooted in shared purpose and an understanding of the pressures, tradeoffs, and responsibilities that come with this work.”

“The dynamic of the peer groups has probably been the most valuable to me. Finding new solutions. Testing your assumptions and getting feedback from experienced leaders.”
Jack Crowley

"When a leader finds that space with other leaders, it is life changing. The High Center is one of the places where I have found the opportunity to genuinely connect, reflect, and be real about the ups and downs of leadership and life as we strive to help our organizations thrive."

What makes us different?

Business discipline, applied to your mission

Financial rigor, operational systems, talent practices, and strategic planning. Our Speaker Series and research are shaped by 30 years of work with companies that live by the numbers.

Ideas from outside your sector

At Speaker Series events and member gatherings, you’re learning alongside leaders who come at the same problems from a different angle, which surfaces assumptions you’d stopped noticing.

Relationships across the region

The business leaders in this community are also the region’s board members, partners, and supporters. You’ll see them at Speaker Series events and across the membership, year after year.

A peer group that understands your journey

Your group is only nonprofit executives, people who know your funding model, your board, and your constraints. The wider community is what you gain on top of that, never instead of it.

Start The Conversation

Tell us about your organization, your goals, and what’s on your mind. We’ll place you in a peer group of similar-sized, non-competing organizations. Join your first peer group meeting and Speaker Series events, and put your insights to work.
